At The Respite we support and recognize, on a profound level, the necessity of art (in all forms) to mirror back to us what it means to be fully human. The Respite is pleased to be partnering with artists and writers who create works that relate to grief and hope by offering them for sale on our website. A portion of each sale is donated to The Respite to help keep our doors open and our services available to all who need them. We appreciate you supporting these artists and The Respite in this way.

Just One Little Thing

We've all been faced with moments in life where the rug gets pulled out from beneath our feet. And, sometimes, it is not only the rug that has been removed; the whole darn floor has disappeared too.
Just One Little Thing is about one of those life changing groundless moments. The story begins on the 4th of July, when a phone call changes everything in Kelly Buckley’s life. Devastated by the unexpected death of her son Stephen, Kelly started to journal about what goodness still remained in her life in the hopes of finding just one little thing to make it through the day.

Gratitude changed everything.

By focusing on the blessings found moment by moment, she was able to allow herself to grieve with an open heart, and accept all the wisdom that comes from life’s difficulties.

Kelly takes the reader on a journey of spiritual connections, butterflies and magic, providing a guide for living a grateful life, no matter what the circumstance.

Spinning Words Into Gold

From the Introduction:
“In the story ‘Rumpelstiltskin,’ the beautiful girl had straw with instructions to spin it into gold.”
Carolyn Noell wrote these words in one of my classes as she explored the gold writing offers. “What do I have?” she pondered. “Only words . . .”

Only wonderful words. The stuff we spin into writing that entertains, educates, inspires.
What would my life be like without the joy and fulfillment of spinning words? Without the beautiful, useful words of others, from the fairy tales and songs I loved as a little girl to the poems and stories I love today? Even as I write on this particular morning in April, words of Robert Frost’s come, unbidden, to keep me company: “Nature’s first green is gold.”

I’m grateful to Frost, and to all the writers who have contributed so richly to me through their words. This book is my way of passing their gifts along to you. It is a guide to the craft and practice of writing, but, even more, it is a guide to reaping the rewards writing provides. Reap writing’s rewards with Spinning Words Into Gold, a book full of tools and resources to nurture, inspire and empower the writer in you.

I Will Never Forget You

I created the ritual in this book in June, 2002, shortly after my mother died. While I shed many tears saying goodbye, I found that my primary emotion was gratitude. How good it was to take a bit of time from the cares and concerns of my everyday life to both mourn and celebrate her life. Not long after, my friend, the Reverend Rebecca Taylor, lost her father. She asked me if I would write down my ritual for her use, and encouraged me to make it available to others.

I Will Never Forget You is for those of any faith, with quotes from many different sources.
